Career Services for Foreign Trained Professionals
Program Description
CIWA’s Career Services for Foreign Trained Professionals supports immigrant women in Calgary to practice their skills and gain experience needed to enter the Canadian workplace. Clients receive English language enhancement, essential skill training including digital skill building. Career planning includes individualized labour market assessment, employment skill building and job search support. Eleven weeks of classroom training is followed by 12 weeks of Canadian work experience. The program is available to immigrant women who are permanent residents or refugees with a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 or higher. The program hosts 2 concurrent intakes.
Program Details

- Digital training such as MS Office Suite, Optimal Resume, Survey Monkey, Prezi
- Canadian workplace preparation
- Pronunciation support
- Job search and career planning support
- Individualized labor market analysis and action plan
Eligible Clients
- Immigrant women who are permanent residents or refugees living in Calgary
- Unemployed or underemployed
- Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 or higher, with post-secondary education
- Participants require foreign professional background in administration and/or customer service
Additional Program Information
- Work experience is offered in collaboration with businesses and non-profit organizations
- Participants may be reimbursed for childcare and transportation costs
- Future learning grant opportunities are available for all participants
- Participants enhance networking skills
- Individual career planning support
- Comprehensive office computer skills training is provided to participants
- Follow-up job search support after program completion
- Referrals to other CIWA programs help participants access additional support services
