Contract Work: Finding Your Way
Program Description
CIWA’s Contract Work: Finding Your Way trains and supports immigrant women to understand the world of contract work, freelance projects and self-employment. Through this project, professionally trained women will build the skills needed to navigate the gig economy and thrive in the changing labor market. The project also includes career planning, individualized labor market assessment, employment skill building and job search support.
The project offers:
- Work experience in collaboration with businesses and non-profit organizations
- Participants may be reimbursed for childcare and transportation costs
- Participants enhance networking skills
Program Details
- 8 weeks of in-class training
- 4 weeks of Canadian work experience
- Offers three intakes in a year:
o April – June
o August – November
o December – March
Eligible Clients
- Immigrant women who are permanent residents or refugees living in Calgary
- Unemployed or underemployed
- Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 6 or higher, with post-secondary education
